Dallas Title Professional Receives President’s Award From Statewide Trade Association

June 22, 2022

AUSTIN – The Texas Land Title Association (TLTA), one of the state’s oldest trade associations, awarded Leslie S. Johnson, the prestigious James H. Garst President’s Award during TLTA’s Annual Conference and Business Meeting in Fort Worth. Johnson is Vice President and Texas State Underwriting Counsel for WFG National Title Insurance Company. The James H. Garst President’s Award recognizes the contributions of individuals who provide outstanding service during a TLTA president’s year in office.

This year, TLTA’s President for 2021-22, John T. Updegraff, Jr. of Frisco, presented this special award to Johnson for her critical role as chair of TLTA’s Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for recommending to TLTA’s Board of Directors the association’s position on pending lawsuits and court decisions that could affect land titles and the title insurance industry.

“Leslie’s brilliant work is largely behind the scenes,” Updegraff said. “She possesses the unique and prized ability to review and analyze complicated legal cases involving issues that have the potential to adversely affect our industry, dissecting the facts and issues presented in those cases, and distilling them down and communicating them in a way that is easy for everyone to understand. The value of her work to our industry this year is far reaching and my gratitude for her service is immeasurable.”

In addition to serving as chair of TLTA’s Judiciary Committee, Johnson is a member of the Legislative, Regulatory and Institute committees. She is also a member of the TLTAPAC Board of Trustees and is a frequent speaker at TLTA’s Institute program. Johnson is currently serving her first year on TLTA’s Board of Directors as underwriter at-large director. Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Tulane University Law School and was elected to the Order of the Barristers. She is licensed to and has practiced in front of all the federal district courts in Texas as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
